Rempstone Show helps Pavilion Project steam ahead

Wymeswold Parish Council’s project to upgrade and extend its ageing community sports pavilion has received a cash boost with a £3,000 grant from the Rempstone Steam and Country Show.

The show, which is held annually at Turnpost Farm just outside Wymeswold, donates its profits each year to local charities and good causes.

Colin Fox, Organising Secretary of the show, said: “We are delighted to support this project which will not only increase sporting participation locally, but will also provide a valuable community building not just for Wymeswold, but for the whole area”.

Nick Shaw, Chairman of Wymeswold Parish Council, added:

“For many years the Rempstone Steam and Country Show has been held just outside the village and we are delighted the committee has chosen to support a great local project in this way”.

The cheque was handed over by Mike Beeby, Honorary President of the Rempstone Traction Engine Club who organise the annual show.

Nick Shaw said “It was a special moment for Mike to do the presentation of the cheque as it was Beeby Brothers Engineering – his family’s firm – who carried out all the levelling and drainage work to build the playing field here in the 1970s”

On top of the grant from the Rempstone Show, the project to rebuild the pavilion has also been boosted by a £50,000 grant from Sport England and also £1,000 from the Wymeswold Running Club, organisers of the annual Wymeswold Waddle running race. It is hoped that the building work will commence in September.

The Rempstone Steam and Country Show has been held locally since 1956 and always supports local and national charities. This year’s show will be held on 12th and 13th July at Turnpost Farm, Wymeswold and further details can be found on the website www.rempstonesteam.org
