Cricket Club 2012 Annual Report

The 2012 cricket season will be remembered more for the appalling weather, causing the cancellation of many games, rather than the cricket actually played. For example, in June and July six of Wymeswold’s seven scheduled Saturday home games had to be cancelled due to the heavy rain.

Rob Pitman captained the first team in Division E of the South Notts Cricket League and the side was unlucky to slip into a relegation slot having won just three games over the summer, with five games lost to the weather.

Meanwhile, the second team was again skippered by Phil Parkes and despite only winning one game the side managed to avoid relegation from Division M by virtue of picking up valuable batting and bowling bonus points.

Again, young talent was an important part of the team and it was encouraging to see youngsters from the club’s junior section coming through to play adult cricket for the second team. Such regulars this season have included Jack Shelton, Harry Shaw, Alfie Dunton, Ollie France and Kevin Sayce.

The club’s Under-13 team completed its third season under the guidance of Mark Dunton but also lost many games to the bad weather. The group has improved immensely, and with four of the team now being ‘over age’ there will be further opportunities for younger ones to come through next season.

The successful junior coaching sessions have continued on Sunday mornings, every week from the start of May through to the end of August under the leadership of Alex Easton.

Altogether over fifty youngsters took part in the various junior activities of the club over the summer which demonstrates the club’s commitment to providing organised sport for youngsters in the village.

Once again the Cricket Club wishes to thank the individuals who help to keep things running, including Mr Ken Barratt who kindly donates the profits from his sales of kindling wood to the club.

The club is promoting a ‘Christmas Comedy Cracker’ in the Memorial Hall on Saturday 8th December in aid of club funds. Tickets are priced at £7 (£8 on the door) and are available from the Secretary (below) or from Wymeswold Pharmacy.

Should you wish to get involved with the club next year - whether it’s playing, scoring, umpiring, coaching, preparing the ground or even making the teas - then please get in touch.
