Cricket Club News Update March 2016

New Players Needed!

The new cricket season is just a few weeks away and Wymeswold Cricket Club would like to recruit a few more players in to ensure that the club can still field two sides every Saturday.

It doesn’t matter if you’re not very good (not many of us are!), but a willingness to turn out and help to the keep the club afloat is far more important than ability.

The season gets underway on Saturday 30th April with the 1st XI competing in Division F of the South Notts Cricket League under the captaincy of Rob Pitman.

Meanwhile the 2nd XI will again be competing in Division M under the leadership of Phil Parkes and Tim Clamp. The side will comprise a mixture of youth and experience – ie some who are now too old and slow, supported by youngsters who have come up through the junior section. The second team is more relaxed with the accent on everyone getting a game (whether batting or bowling).

The club also has a team competing in the Belvoir League on Thursday evenings, where Jason Whowell manages the side.

Wymeswold’s under-13 team commences its league fixtures on Sunday 1st May at Barkby and we are on the look-out for any youngsters aged 13 or under who may be interested in joining in to play these short Sunday morning games.

New Facilities

The magnificent newly-refurbished and extended pavilion means it will be a fantastic venue to play cricket this summer. We have a great ground and the practice nets on the field has recently been renewed.

Should you be interested in playing or helping the club in any way please contact Nick Shaw, WCC Secretary, on 01509 880543 or e-mail
