World War 1 Commemoration

The Wymeswold Parish Council purchased a bronze memorial plaque to honour ‘ the fallen’ from WW1 and WW2 and it was officially unveiled by Mike Pritchard on Sunday 9th November 2014. Mike is the grandson of Claud Edmunds, the Vicar in Wymeswold during WW1.

The Reverend Edmunds was responsible for initiating the the concept of building an institute as war memorial for the village. The hall would have been funded by the local community, but with advice and expertise supplied by the YMCA.

The unveiling was held in conjunction with the Wymeswold Historical Organisation’s ‘Bringing them home- the lost sons of Wymeswold’ book launch and WW1 exhibition. After laying wreaths, refreshments were served in the memorial hall, it was great to see so many people there.
