Cricket Club News Update April 2011

The victorious 1st XI on the last day of the 2010 season *

New Season

The new cricket season gets underway for Wymeswold on 7th May, with the 1st XI again being captained by Andrew Shelton. Having won promotion last year, the side will be competing in Division E of the South Notts Cricket League with fixtures running through to through until 3rd September.

Meanwhile the 2nd XI will be competing in Division M again and new skipper Phil Parkes will be hoping that the side, with a mixture of youth and experience, will continue its success this season.

The Under-17 team will be led by James Barry and will be competing in the Leicestershire Youth League on Monday evenings, while the Under-13 team commences its league fixtures on Sunday 29th May.

Sunday Junior Coaching

The club's successful junior sessions will continue this year on Sunday mornings from 10am until 11.30am. The sessions will commence at 10am on Sunday 8th May and will continue every week (weather permitting) until the first week of September. These fun-based sessions are open to boys and girls aged 7+ of any ability and the membership fee is £15 to cover the whole summer. For further details and a membership form, please contact Nick Shaw using the details below.

Opportunities to get involved

Newcomers to the village or area are very welcome to get involved with the club. Even if you don't consider yourself to be a cricketer, we would welcome help in other areas off the field.

•  Our Sunday junior sessions are reliant on adult help, and any offers would be appreciated. For the younger children the accent is on ball games, throwing, catching and hand/eye coordination so if you feel you could help then please get in touch.

•  The Cricket Club also mows and maintains the whole of the Playing Field on behalf of the Parish Council, so apart from the pitch itself the club also mows the banks and areas around the pavilion. Any help with mowing or strimming these areas would be appreciated.

Should you be interested in helping the club in any way please contact Nick Shaw , WCC Secretary, on 01509 880543 or e-mail
