Wymeswold Village Project Fund - Community Grant Awards 2011

The Wymeswold Village Project Fund (the organising committee behind the annual Duck Races) made grants available to local clubs, associations, societies, community projects and charities. These grants were as a result of the Wymeswold Village Duck Races in May 2011 and the profits realised on the betting races, BBQ and games.

Applications from four village-based organisations were received by the closing date of 31st October, and the Awards Panel were able to distribute grants to the four applicants as follows:

  • 1st Wolds Scouts
Grant towards new camping 'mess tent'
£250
  • Wolds Historical Organisation
Recording equipment for 'Village Voices' project
£84
  • Wymeswold Memorial Hall
Purchase of new stainless steel saucepans
£126
  • 1st Wolds Rainbows
Grant towards cost of trip and activities
£200

The Awards Panel felt that all the above projects met the conditions of the award scheme, and were pleased to help out these village organisations. A further amount of money was earmarked towards a village project next year to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the arrival of the Olympic Flame in the village on 3rd July 2012.

Next year's Duck Races will be held on Sunday 13th May 2012, and as usual village groups are invited to get involved. We would also like to hear from any individuals who wish to help to organise the event.Further details can be obtained from Wilma O'Leary (Secretary of the Wymeswold Village Project Fund / Duck Races) at wilma.oleary@googlemail.com.
